Los Ferreros
Suppliers to the ancient Restaurante Botín
The current owner’s great-grandfather opened this grocery shop in one of the streets leading to Plaza Mayor, the heart of Galdosian Madrid and the largest commercial area in the city at the time. He quickly became a trusted supplier to some of the most prominent restaurants in the area, including the centuries-old Restaurante Botín. After some time, the founder converted the grocery shop into a butcher’s shop. Over time, cheese, cold meats, wine, saffron and other typical Spanish products were added to the shelves to cater to the large numbers of tourists visiting this part of the city. Although it has been ‘improved’ over the years, the décor of the shop preserves its original essence: an 1899 painting of cherubs holding cold meats on the ceiling has survived to this day. The shop continues to be run by the Ferrero family.
